Aspect ratio describes the relationship of an image’s width to its height. It is expressed as two numbers separated by a colon, width:height. Common aspect ratios are 1.85:1 (Flat) and 2.35:1 (Scope) in cinematography, 4:3 (1.3:1) and 16:9 (1.37:1) in television, and 3:2 in still photography.
Put simply, aspect ratio is the ratio of an image’s width to its height. For example, a 1.85:1 image is 1.85 times as wide as it is high.
